Using open source techniques, Afghan Witness has been able to conclusively link one group of Taliban fighters to the execution of ten men in the Dara District area.

For over a decade, doctors Sameera and Nadim treated Afghanistan’s drug addicts, despite threats from the local drug mafia who viewed them as disruptors. They allege that their daughter was kidnapped on her way to school one day. After selling everything they owned to pay the ransom, the family fled to Pakistan, but say the threats continue.

The explosion occurred in the predominantly Hazara area of Dasht-e Barchi, with significant casualties among female students.

Afghan Witness spoke to two women who planned to continue their studies in Qatar and Kyrgyzstan, but say the Taliban prevented them and other female students from boarding a Doha-bound flight. Both women's names have been changed to protect their identities.

An emergency hospital in Kabul, run by Emergency NGO, stated that they received 14 victims of the blast, four of which died on arrival.

According to reports, two Russian embassy staff were among at least six people killed in the attack, which was later claimed by ISKP.

Afghan Witness geolocated footage and images from the aftermath of the explosion - which Taliban officials say killed 18 people.

Since the Taliban’s return last August, the group has demonstrated determination to regulate, shape, and control access to education in Afghanistan.
